Lao Textiles Exhibition
Exhibition curated by Valerie Kirk
Detail of weaving from Northern Lao PDR
LAO TEXTILES – WEAVING DREAMS AND ASPIRATIONS was curated for Artspace Wodonga and the Ararat Regional Gallery to show the diversity and quality of contemporary textiles of LAO PDR.
Artspace Wodonga - installation view
I gave a floortalk with the exhibition at Wodonga to a very large group interested in the vibrant work being produced now by textile makers in workshops, home businesses and remote villages throughout the country.
Carol Cassidy - contemporary silk scarves
This exhibition followed on from the Lao tapestry exhibition I curated for TAPESTRY 2008. If you would like a free copy of the small DL format catalogue from the tapestry exhibition – please e-mail me at : Valerie.Kirk @anu.edu.au. Also I am taking tours to laos to study textiles, travelling to markets, workshops, village weavers, private collections and much more. It is an experiential tour with an emphasis on learning through meeting the makers, seeing demonstrations and participating in a workshop. Details are on the ACTIVE TRAVEL WEBSITE
