Herriot Watt University students had travelled up to Edinburgh from Galashields to be part of their exhibition, demonstrating and talking to the public. The student work was energetic and contemporary, making the antique looms the students were demonstrating on look like relics from the past.
Visiting Degree shows in Glasgow and Edinburgh, meeting colleagues and talking about courses and developments in textiles education was interesting to think about the specific focuses within university education.
Edinburgh College of Art featured Fashion in the prime position of the school, the Sculpture Court. the work was bold and adventurous with extravagant fabrics and furs in theatrical wearables.
The printed textile above from Cumbria University, Carlisle, captures the student experience. I loved the way it looks so official with charts and graphs, but is really very tongue -in-cheek, giving a real picture of university life.
